The website isn't working correctly on Android. In both Chrome and Duck Duck Go if you list the albums by an artist you are unable to select compilations, nothing happens.

Yes.  Dns.adguard.com

Correct.
AM is one site that is vastly slowed with ads.
However, that still doesn't change that with a click radio button AM goes back to artist top page.

While I understand the needs for ads, they need to be better implemented when it comes to home a phone contends with them.
Perhaps just static instead of video and pop-ups.

Hi Fritz,

Can you let us know if you have an adblocker running on your Pixel?

Maybe AdAway or another adblocking software?

In our testing, if you have an adblocker on, you will see the Radio Buttons like on desktop, but if adblocker is off, you will see a dropdown where you can select the different options.

Unfortunately the static ads don't pay enough for us to keep the site running.

We've definitely seen issues where an adblocking software interferes with our interaction methods in ways we can't anticipate.

We also have a subscription version where users can support AllMusic and get a faster ad-free experience. https://www.allmusic.com/subscribe

only on my phone, ok on the desktop.

I click compilations and it takes me back to the artist start page.

I just white-listed *.allmusic.com and that didn't make much difference.  I can tell it to view the desktop site and then the radio buttons are displayed and they work, but it seems like when I view the mobile site I'm seeing radio buttons and your site is expecting to interact with the combobox that isn't present.  Very odd.

Any chance you'll be adding a dedicated app?  I'd prefer one over the web browser.  If you have any other specific websites you would suggest that I whitelist I'd be happy to add them.

Thanks for the help, it is appreciated.

Very interesting behavior.  After turning it off I have to shut and relaunch Chrome in order to clear cache.  The selection of which group of recordings I want is back to the normal phone UI and shows as a combobox.  It works.

I toggle AdAway back on and close and relaunch and now it gives the desktop UI of radio buttons instead and they don't work, just like what I originally reported (minus the details about combobox vs radio buttons).

It appears to me that somehow you aren't correctly identifying that the device is a small screen UI for some reason.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, sounds like AdAway is interfering with how our site is supposed to work.

My suggestion is to not use that adblocker on our site.

I'm sure there is some way to whitelist AllMusic within the AdAway settings.

It's been this way for months and this is the most recent version of Android available for my phone.  This is the version it updated me to yesterday and the problem has existed across numerous upgrades.  The version number might be targeted for my hardware and OS, something that Google often does and I don't have access to the specific version you are citing.

I do have AdAway installed, but it's a pretty blunt tool.  If there are specific domains I should be whitelisting please let me know what they are.  I don't have the ability to turn it off for specific websites I visit, that's not how it works.

Interesting. I'm surprised we haven't heard more complaints from Android users if this is more widespread.

Is there a way to toggle off AdAway to see if it may be the culprit?

I think this is what you asked for:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 11; motorola one 5G ace) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/107.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that you're on Android 11 (launched in 2020) and it looks like Android 13 is the most current version.

Also (if this *just* happened) we're seeing that Google released a new version of Chrome for Android just yesterday: https://chromereleases.googleblog.com/2022/

It looks like your Chrome version is listed at 107.0.0.0 and the most recent version (as of yesterday) is 107.0.5304.91

Another thing to check is if you are running any adblocker extension on Chrome, it might be interfering with how the site works.

EG

It isn't.  I'm seeing the artist page re-displayed instead.

Can you please give us some information about the OS and version of Android you are using?

Can you go to this page and send us the URL it creates for you (next to the green button that says "Copy")

In our testing, we are able to access compilations in Android:

Is this not what you are seeing?

We'll take a look.
