how to find when the review was posted?

Karo Micha · 3 · Last reply by Karo Micha

hi there, i’m doing some research on albums nominated for Grammy awards since 1999 and I found it difficult to check the date of AllMusic’s reviews. do you maybe know how can I check when the exact review has been posted? as an example I would like to know on which day the review for Jacob Collier’s latest album was posted but it seems this information is nowhere to be found (https://www.allmusic.com/album/djesse-vol-3-mw0003418113 4). or maybe I’m just too dumb to do this… if anyone knows how to check that, please let me know. best, k.

    Joe Purdy

Scott Johnson · 1 · Last reply by rootsmusic

I am wondering why AllMusic doesn't not review Joe Purdy albums? He has about 15 albums listed on this site over about 15-20 years, with an average user rating of about 4.5 stars. But zero reviews by AllMusic. He is one of the finest folk singer/songwriters performing today and I don't understand the lack of interest. He is on par with Townes Van Zandt, Gregory Alan Isakov, and at his best, even Bob Dylan. I just don't get it. I think he deserves a more serious look and some commentary on your part. Thanks!

Purchase copy of "Celtic Harpestry: Live From Lismore Castle"?

Fredseaborne · 3 · Last reply by Fredseaborne

Dear Folks, A while back I ordered a VHS copy of "Celtic Harpestry: Live From Lismore Castle" through Amazon. I wondered if you have any more copies of this movie; either on VHS or DVD. A computer file might be okay, as well. Please let me know; thanks! Fred Seaborne fredseaborne@hotmail.com

How does AllMusic's "Similar To" feature actually work? What data and evidence is used to determine similar style/aesthetic/scene between artists?

Matthew Reyes · 1 · Last reply by Zac

I'm looking to better understand how AllMusic is creating this list of suggestions, as the methodology seems quite opaque.

    Thanks in advance!

    no track listing

rootsmusic · 2 · Last reply by Zac

Some older albums don't have any info, except title and artist.  But why would a newer album have an album cover with the number of discs, but no track listing?  Thanks.

The Armed & For Those I Love

    Matski · 0 · Posted

Without trying to pile too much work on to your editors, I wondered whether any of them would be keen to review the recent releases by these two acts: The first is Ultrapop by The Armed, a noise-rock/Post-hardcore band. This albums been getting name-checked by quite a few publications in their mid-year highlights and it would interesting to see your team's views on it.

The second album, the self-titled debut from For Those I Love is album that combines elements of house and UK Garage with spoken word. It garnered praise from the British press when it was rereleased at

Would it be possible to bring back the short, tagline-like versions of the bio, perhaps with a read-more button to expand them to the full bio?

Sophie Corsentino · 3 · Last reply by Dylan Medlock

As the artist pages stand right now, I see little point in even having the biography tab when the biography is already taking up most of the page real estate to begin with. The short taglines were earnestly my favorite feature of the site - the ability to quickly learn what an artist is about without having to read the full bio was EXTREMELY valuable to me, and in building my own personal library I often added the short bio taglines as "comments" in the metadata of my MP3s, and wrote my own when none were to be found. Artist biographies not updating on Spotify

The Spotify biography for DMX has not been updated in a long time. This rapper died in April 2021, but it's not mentioned in his Spotify bio.

Why has Allmusic consistently ignored the progressive bluegrass genre?

Michael Duey · 7 · Last reply by Zac

I've used and subscribed to Allmusic for many years and have read, agreed, disagreed, recommended this site to others, and learned so much. I have wide, eclectic tastes that the site usually covers, but, the progressive bluegrass coverage is barely minimal. The most recent and major example is Billy Strings. Not a single bit of music has been reviewed, induing the new album that dropped yesterday, 9/24/21. This young man is a major talent and is pushing genres and boundries hard and is going to be a major, major player.

Hope you listen in and enjoy!

Little Simz, Lingua Ignota, Lump & Anna B Savage

Matski · 2 · Last reply by Matski

Hey Zac and the rest of the forum team. Hope you are all doing well.

As alluded to at the end of my previous request, there are additional new albums I've been hoping to see reviewed. It's been a while since they were released so I'm curious to know if anyone is still planning on covering them:

    1. Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert We'll start with a familiar name. You may remember that a request was made two years ago to review this artist's previous album - Grey Area. As the response was very positive, I'm kinda

    Synth-pop = pop?

ElectroGhost · 2 · Last reply by Zac

    Is Synth-pop also pop music?

Most music companies like Billboard include all of Synth-pop music into pop chart. I have never see any chart site categorized synth-pop as new wave.

What do the word "Traditions" mean in the category "International"?

Stephen · 2 · Last reply by rootsmusic

Almost all the groups under https://www.allmusic.com/genre/international-ma0000002660 have the word "Traditions" in their name (except of African, Jewish and Celtic/British Isles for some reason). Does it only mean to be a category of traditional music, the kind that Wikipedia or RateYourMusic refers to as folk music (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Folk_music_by_country) or traditional folk (https://rateyourmusic.com/genre/traditional-folk-music/). Or is it just a conventional word, denoting only an origin from a particular culture/region, which can refer to both traditional music and popular music in that region? I.e. it's essentially superfluous and could be replaced by the word "music". If the latter is correct, don't you think this use

Record label webpages with history and list of albums.

Doug Rokakis · 2 · Last reply by rootsmusic

How difficult would it be to develop webpages for record labels that would be similar to the genre webpages with a small history provided of said record label and access to a list of all albums they’ve released that can be sorted by rating? I’d gladly settle for the sortable album/record label list.

Gaslighting and Trolls; specifically on Rich White Honky Blues Hank Williams, Jr.

Murray Winship · 7 · Last reply by Karl

A really weird name pops up "Robert Berger" on this album with exactly 12 thumbs down overnight, while this fictitious character get 12 thumbs up. Do you find that a bit odd? Also, this problem with people sabotaging reviews seems to be happening more often. I've discovered a few culprits (Al King & Frederick Baptist) whom are currently posting. They seem to want to cancel each other out on their reviews quite frequently. Maybe we could model Allmusic.com after Linux's own "Google Music" where we can comment on each others comments without all this clandestined secrecy that invites trouble? What

Why are there so many compilations in my recommendations now?

    rochelle218 · 3 · Last reply by Zac

With the recent update to recommendations, the recommendations have become almost unusable for me. 90% of my recs are either:

    * Ones I've rated before: (I saw the previous question from 3 months ago, but this is still occurring)

    * Compilation albums: These rarely showed up under the old rec list, but now most of my recommendations are some form of compilation album.

Is there anything I can do on my end to fix this, or if not, is there a estimated timeline for the recs to be fixed?
