Hello, I have noticed a glaring issue with the discography for Mariah Carey. Other female artists (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lil’ Kim, TLC, Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Donna Summer, Britney Spears - compilation, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, etc.) have appropriately had album scores updated to five stars to reflect their respective classic albums, but this has not been done for Carey despite her level of influence and her insanely high-quality discography. It seems inexplicable that albums like Butterfly, Emancipation of Mimi, Daydream, Greatest Hits have not been updated to five stars to reflect their quality, influence, and classic status and likely makes AllMusic readers question editor bias. (Note: I don’t think this is the reason, but it likely is called into question by readers seeing her outdated page.) These albums are landmark R&B/pop works and universally lauded for their impact on the musical soundscape. Another concern - male artists with similar impact regularly have three/four albums with retrospective 5/5 scores while the females I mentioned usually only have one or two. I look forward to seeing this improvement, particularly as it applies to recognizing Carey’s contribution to music.

2023 Album Reviews Request

Can you forward a request to the editorial team? It's a small list of recent albums to be considered for review. These artists have all had at least one of their previous albums reviewed by AllMusic and their new album seems to be quite popular amongst users:

Iris DeMent - Workin' on a World
The Murder Capital - Gigi's Recovery
Ryuichi Sakamoto - 12
Sunny War - Anarchist Gospel

In addition, could you find out if their are plans to review these two albums? Both have already been released digitally, though the AllMusic website notes that they are still awaiting physical release. It would be reassuring to know that the editorial team have plans to review them when the physical release is available:

Album Ratings and Admin Errors

There's something I want to ask about your ratings. When an artist's album pick (the suggested entry point) differs from being their most highly-rated, editors usually provide criticisms in the review that explain why the album pick release hasn't received a higher rating. See Erykah Badu or Lou Reed.

Lately, I've noticed that there are occasions where criticisms weren't given to explain the choice. It has led me to wonder if errors were made instead. There are two very different acts that I wanted to highlight this with.

The first is the late Nanci Griffith. Once in a Very Blue Moon is a great breakout record but her follow-up, The Last of the True Believers is more often name-checked and praised by both her fans and critics alike. The AllMusic review also highly rates the latter album and awarded it the album pick. Considering that both records sit next to each other in Griffith's discography, is it possible that Once in a Very Blue Moon was accidentally given the five star rating instead of The Last of the True Believers? Or was the former record always the intended choice?

Likewise, there's Pure Guava by Ween. It's a fantastic little record but it's one that's rarely viewed as the band's best and it seems like such an odd choice to give a full-five star rating. It also sits right next to the acclaimed Chocolate and Cheese, which yet again has AllMusic's album pick. Could it be that the follow-up album was originally the intended target for a maximum rating but there was a mix-up along the way?

I would be interested to know if these two choices were intentional or accidental. And if they were intentional, what was the reasoning behind choosing them over their popular neighbor. Look forward to your feedback.

2010s Album Review Request

Would anyone be willing to forward on another request? A few months ago, it was mentioned in a thread (see the Billie Eilish request) that the editorial team may consider review requests for albums with a large number of ratings and user reviews, regardless of their release date. Big Mistake! I've been slowly compiling a list of albums from the last decade that were never reviewed. Nearly all of them have over 100 user ratings and most have at least a couple of user reviews:

Given how hectic the next few weeks are with new releases, it's likely that your writers are very busy with their current workload. However, I'd really appreciate it if any of them would consider writing a review for either of the following two albums:

Saba - Few Good Things

Kinda surprised this new Saba album hasn't been reviewed yet. His last album was so well-received that it earned a spot on your 'Decade in Review' list. Even if your reviewers find that this new release doesn't reach the same heights of its predecessor, It would still be great to get a profesional write-up about it.

Yard Act - The Overload

This one's a debut from a new British post-punk band that have been causing a stir. As you can see from your site's user ratings and reviews, they've already accurred quite a following. Hopefully it's enough for the AllMusic team to consider whether one of their own should add their opinion to the pile.

Beth Orton & Molly Tuttle Request

Could someone find out if there are plans to review of these two artists recent albums? Beth Orton's new album - Weather Alive, seems to picking quite a few fans amongst the critics. Some such as Pitchfork's Sam Sadomsky have even claimed that it's her best yet. While I don't personally agree, I'd still be very interested to read your editor's own views on it.

I'd also be interested to hear their opinions on Molly Tuttle's Crooked Tree. I know your reviewers have only been moderately impressed by her previous work but I'd still be intrigued to see what they think of this one.

Any response is greatly apreciated.

Since the website has been updated forcing users to disable ad blockers, how is it that others are able to browse the website at all? I'm using Safari 17.3.1 on my desktop. It is literally not possible to use this website now with all the advertisements popping up and causing the web pages to move around on its own.

I understand ads pay for the service and I'm not complaining about that. For the handful of times I use this resource over the year, it's not reasonable of me to pay for a subscription so I'm happy to allow ads. I am asking the user base, what you are doing on your web browser in order to physically browse the website? (Never mind that the new redesign makes finding information even more cumbersome, regardless of ads).

I'm considering a paid subscription, as I value AllMusic's content, but cannot tolerate the advertising. However, in the Terms of Service, it's stated that "Limited Third-Party Advertising is the only benefit conferred to a User who registers for a Paid Subscription." There's no further clarification on what this entails.

What exactly is meant by "Limited Third-Party Advertising"? How much and what type of advertising would I expect to see as a paid subscriber?

Why do you miss out more and more new albums? I just listen on Tidal to "Trilogy 3" by Chick Corea with his trio, published last year (2025). In the discography you have only Trilogy 2 (2018).

Are new classical releases no longer being reviewed?

They are listed for albums, but not listed under Genres/Subgenres/Styles. There were 23 styles under Caribbean Traditions. Also Caribbean Traditions is not part of Reggae; though Reggae can be a Caribbean Tradition. Caribbean Traditions should be a Subgenre under International. Who makes these changes?
