Are user names only recognized for sharing playlists & doing reviews?

I've updated profile for a user name & avatar through gravatar.  No problems.  But on a conversation page I've typed in response - didn't submit b/c my full name, not user name is showing?

Lots of good questions.

We originally chose to put users' real names on the site when we publish user reviews in an effort to try to encourage people to be honest, straightforward and not act in a cruel manner by hiding behind an anonymous name.

Studies have shown that if people assign their actual name to something they're publishing on the internet, they will act in a more civilized manner. (Note: this research was done many years ago and online civility may have gone completely out the window in more recent years).

There is nothing preventing you from going into your user account settings and changing your First Name / Last Name to something that does not identify you personally: https://www.allmusic.com/user/profile

Additionally, if you wanted to keep your profile private (meaning that you could see your profile but others could not), you can set your Profile Settings to "Private" on this page: https://www.allmusic.com/user/profile-settings

Sure, thanks Zac.  I also see my first name & not user name on profile on the page when I open it.  2nd question - Will anyone else see my page if I upload a link to another forum?  B/C my first name (not user name) is @ top of page.  (But, I'm figuring that's b/c that's my accountvia e-mail.  I don't set up numerous accounts, just different user names.

Looks like that is a blog.  Oh, jeesh...Does that company manage facebook?  I hate that place b/c of having to use your own name/no anonymity; rarely utilized it in a decade & just deactivated (not deleted) a/c.  I'm on youtube & comment there as that's definitely via user-name.  I created a user name on twitter, too & still can't figure out whether or not my full name, or user name appears when I tweet (not that I've done so, often; I just joined).  I'm on other online message board forums, but with user names in profile & that's what's used, so I'm doubting that Spot.IM is the company on those.

So, this means, the only way to participate in conversation is for my full name to appear?

What about for leaving reviews?  I've been on allmusic for a number of years, but haven't done so, as yet.  Thank you.

Hi Karen,
Can you please give us a URL for the "conversation page" you are referring to?

On our blog posts, the comments are managed by a company called Spot.IM and if you have commented other places that also use their services, that may be carrying over.

Do you mean https://www.openweb.com?  I haven't used it before, but I already have a profile on your blog.  I'm trying to edit my profile on your blog.  Thanks.
