make credits page more useful

Garth Hudson was so talented and musically brilliant on a variety of instruments.  I'm revisiting his credits playing on other artists' sessions.  Since there's no advanced credits search (which would be a better idea than this one), below are some ideas to make the credits page more useful.

  1. Allow filter to exclude composer as credited role.
  2. Add filter for main albums and EPs.
  3. Show editor ratings.
  4. Show icon if editor reviewed album.

Ha! You noticed! Hooray!

There's still more we want to do here, but this is the low-hanging fruit.

The other things you mention are possible, but require massive rebuilds of the data sets for every artist.

When we display the credits data, we're not querying the database for every data element displayed, we're returning a previously-captured set of elements that we took a snapshot of and kept as a data object.

If we decide that when we display this data object, we also want to show the editorial ratings, the review icon, the "product type"(main album, ep. single). the styles for the release, then we need to inject those data points for all of the three million-plus artists in the database. (then figure out the controls for these settings that users can interact with).

Is this impossible? No.

Is it a lot of work/churn to rebuild all of these artist objects with new data elements? Yes.

Are a lot of users asking for this? Not so far as we've seen.

So all of these are good features and we have ideas about implementing them, but your first suggestion was the low-hanging fruit that we were able to tackle first.

Thanks Zac!  Now I can more easily select all of Garth's credits with a variety of organs.  In the past, I had to select one type of organ (e.g. Lowry, Hammond) at a time.  Most users wouldn't have the patience to select only one credited role at a time, especially when they'd see many overlapping results because Garth can be credited with playing multiple types of organs on one album.

P.S. I also use the credits page to discover various artist albums that credited Garth as a Primary Artist.
