New Advanced Search Update Issue

Quick question - did the new Advanced Search (that Zac has previously mentioned) happen a couple of days ago? Or was it just an update to the current system before the new one is setup? New search results are now more complete and up-to-date.

There is a problem with the new update: It no longer filters out compilations from the main/studio albums. Everytime I run a search, compilations are included in the results. This happens regardless of the options that are selected on the sidebar. Is there any chance of fixing that? That would be very helpful.

Of course, if the plan is to replace Advanced Search with something completly new soon then please ignore this request.

Thanks for the heads-up.

We rolled the newest iteration of Advanced Search live yesterday and this had not come up in our QA.

We see the same results you are seeing and will take a look at resolving it.

Here's an example; A current search on '5-star' 'Pop/Rock' releases from 2011, with only 'Main Albums' selected brings up compilations from acts like Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison and The Smiths. It's a similar result if I switch it to 'Studio Recordings'. Maybe one of them is meant to combine albums and compilations but currently both toggles are, with no option to seperate the two.

We had a lengthy internal conversation today and hope to roll out a fix next week.

We were able to roll out a fix and the Main Albums selection should actually be showing Main Albums now.

Fantastic. Just been testing it. The new adjustments are defintely an improvement.

It does look like there's still a few kinks to work out - sometimes a search brings up various artist compilations when 'main album' is selected. Alternatively, selecting 'various artists' often brings up non-V/A releases. Not sure if sometimes that's intentional but I'm not that fussed about it. If it's not intentional I'd imagine that could be quite the nightmare to untangle.

Regardless, thanks for looking into the original issue. This fix will be very helpful.

Sure. Here's an example of a various artist release sneaking into a 'main albums' selection:

Not shown in above picture is 'pop/rock' selected in the 'Genres & Styles' section.

Having looked through some various artist searches again, they do seem to only be bringing up V/A entries now.
