alphabetization

When I alphabetically sort album titles at https://www.allmusic.com/artist/cleopatra-mn0000818011, why does it divide the albums into two sets?  It's as if there's a maximum number of records that can be sorted in a single set, so it needs to separately sort the remaining records.  (See screenshot of where the remaining records are sorted as a separate set.)

It has something to do with how the non-standard characters like " Æ" are being interpreted while sorting.

You can also see it here: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/zoo-entertainment-mn0000224880

We'll see if there is a simple fix for this.

Ok Zac, but also note the rest of my screenshot's albums don't begin with a non-standard character.  Below my screenshot (not posted in this topic) are album titles that begin with letter B and so on.

Yes. The non-standard character was throwing off our sort. It would go from A-Z (or more accurately numbers and punctuation to Z), then find "Æ" and start re-sorting from there.

You have pointed out a bug. We have researched it and found a solution.

I filtered for "Primary Artist" and sorted by artist name on https://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-band-mn0000038490/credits .  It looks like the album 1968 is throwing off sorting in the screenshot below?

Zac, are you able to replicate the bug reported in my comment above?

Zac, I believe that they worked on this bug.  But now compilations without a single artist (multiple Primary Artists) are grouped at the end of credits, regardless of sorting.  When I used to browse V/A compilations, I used to sort by artist in reverse alphabetical order.  Since most artists have a much longer credits page, such sorting was quicker.

Can you give me an example of an artist page where this is happening?

@rootsmusic

Are you sorting by Artist Name? Or Album Title?

By artist name.

We are able to replicate the issue and have filed a bug in our backlog.

This is something we plan on fixing but it is considered a lower priority than some of the other tasks in front of us.

Thanks

Zac, I'm filtering for "Primary Artist" in The Band's credits.   Then I sort artist by reverse alphabetization.  But their compilations with multiple Primary Artists aren't displayed near the top.  It's just a nuisance for long credits.

I see. That is actually by design. We filter A-Z with blank entries at the bottom, then filter from Z-A with blank entries on the bottom.
