metadata relevancy

Please allow users to give feedback on the relevancy of metadata (e.g. genre, style).  By doing so, you can identify which metadata is irrelevant and which are more relevant.  Metadata with more relevance, as agreed by most users, will improve the relevancy of your recommenders and Advanced Search's results.  Thanks.

I don't believe the editorial team is staffed to go back through and assess user feedback on individual genres and styles.

One thing that we've talked about doing is along the same lines of what we've done on song pages:

Attributes:

For years we've wanted to give the music fans the ability to profile and categorize their favorite songs. Adding appropriate genres, styles, moods and themes to whichever song they'd like. Simply click where it says "Add Styles" in the left sidebar of any song page. If a song has no attributes it'll say "We currently don't have any genres associated with this song. Would you like to contribute?"

Through this interface users can tag a genre, up two three styles, up to three moods, and up to three themes on each performance. The most popular attributes for each are listed in order of the number of times they've been assigned. Users can pick from this list of previously-assigned descriptors, or select new ones from the category trees (or by typing in the filter area) on the left.

Zac, this idea isn't limited to songs nor does it suggest a manual assessment of user feedback.  (Indeed, users can add but not delete a song's metadata.)  This idea would enable Advanced Search to sort results by relevance.

Currently, Advanced Search includes some irrelevant results because it's unaware that those results have irrelevant metadata.  For example: when Advanced Search filters styles for pub rock, more users would agree that a compilation titled "Naughty Rhythms: The Best of Pub Rock" is more relevant than "The R&B Sessions: Elvira/Tell It Like It Is" despite both sharing the filtered style.  Allmusic needs to offer a way for users to give feedback that pub rock correctly describes the former and incorrectly describes the latter compilation.
