have you considered adding an API to upload and change user contributed data?

i completely understand why you don’t provide an API to access your core music data, reviews etc. i would love an API that allowed me to bulk upload/modify my personal data. as a longtime subscriber, i’d be perfectly happy if it was only available to subscribers.

my core music data (favorite artists, albums, songs; song ratings; playlists etc.) live in a database driven from my music files. i do not have the time to enter them manually on the site — but i’d love to have them there.

thanks for your consideration.

Hey John,

I understand the desire for this kind of function (an API that would allow users to authenticate themselves and make mass updates or modifications to their own user ratings, reviews, and collection), it would be cool, but I gotta imagine that the audience for this kind of tech-savvy advanced coding feature would be in the single digits.

In order for our developers to not only create the API to allow this, but also put in security measures so that your account / our database couldn't be compromised by malicious injections AND develop matching tools to make sure that your version of Paul McCartney & Wings record matches to our Paul McCartney / Wings entry, the amount of work would be weeks (or more likely months) of end-to-end development and bulletproofing, but only really be used by a small handful of dedicated AllMusic users.

A good idea, but we're not staffed to implement it.

Thanks much for being a longtime subscriber.
