2023 Album Reviews Request

Can you forward a request to the editorial team? It's a small list of recent albums to be considered for review. These artists have all had at least one of their previous albums reviewed by AllMusic and their new album seems to be quite popular amongst users:

In addition, could you find out if their are plans to review these two albums? Both have already been released digitally, though the AllMusic website notes that they are still awaiting physical release. It would be reassuring to know that the editorial team have plans to review them when the physical release is available:

  • SBTRKT - The Rat Road (physicaly released on 29th September)
  • Sigur Rós - Átta (physicaly released on 1st September)

Arooj Aftab has been gathering plenty of critical acclaim as well as about a 100 user ratings for her two albums combined. It would be wonderful if an AllMusic editor would give her a good listen as well. Or probably, they already have, and all they need is to be commissioned to write about her. ;)

T

This album by Fred Again... and Brian Eno was rated by 69 users in 10 months, but AllMusic has yet to wake up to it.

T

Royal Blood's latest was reviewed by 50 users since its release in September last year, but not yet by AllMusic. Would be nice if this gap might still be filled. :)

Rapper MIKE's 'Burning Desire' was rated 4.5 stars last year, but his 'Beware of the Monkey' didn't get rated at all. That's a shame, since it's also very good. Hope someone will still find a moment!

No problem, thanks.

Limited resources? Ok but I believe we are trying, this  project as been the best form all his project and still counting streams till date, what limited rest? People are running down All music to get things done, and please why is it so hard to submit to All music this days ?

We add literally thousands of new albums to the system each week, and simply cannot write reviews for all of them.

Blondshell's debut was highly rated, on average, by 39 users and counting. Still worth a review, I'd say, with another tour coming up. https://www.allmusic.com/album/blondshell-mw0003922196

Seems the editorial team are still taking requests for yesteryear - a new staff review for this one has just been added.

I’m yet to understand why “Road to Melodie’s” is yet to be reviewed? With 10 users review do you think it’s so easy? And Album making wave till date. Elizy is so underrated

Depending on how old the release is, it probably would need to have a higher number of user ratings. Having some user reviews helps too, though that Elizy record has several. The editorial team likes to ensure that a release is generating enough interest for it will be worth devoting time and resources towards it.

Matski, this person E.M.M. is the "Label, Owner · ElizyMusicMade " and has been trying to request a review of this independent release for about six months now.

This album has gotten visits from 35 users on AllMusic over the past 12 months. I do wish we could cover every album that is released but there isn't the bandwidth.

I appreciate the enthusiasm of a label owner wanting to get their album covered, but as you stated the writers have very limited resources and will not be reviewing this album.

That's some commitment but I'm not sure posting on this forum would be the best way of getting the right response. Wouldn't it better to contact your publicity team with an email?

It may be too late for the Best of-lists, but I would still argue that Paul Simpson should really write a review for this excellent album by DJ Manny that dropped in November:

I hope someone will still find a moment for this excellent album that came out on December 1.

This one was sorely lacking from the Best of Indie & Alternative today, hope someone will still find a moment for it: https://www.allmusic.com/album/blondshell-mw0003922196

I really hope the excellent new album by Shafiq Husayn, whose earlier efforts were very highly rated, will still be picked up for the 'Best of R&B' of 2023.

I really wonder why Jason Moran has been ignored ever since 2014's highly-rated 'All Rise'. This excellent album from 2023 is not even listed on AllMusic: https://jasonmoran.bandcamp.com/album/from-the-dancehall-to-the-battlefield

While we are on bandcamp, I would also love to hear how Thom Jurek evaluates this album from Norway featuring Jeff Parker, it seems right up his alley:

I hope someone will still find a moment for this amazing album by rapper/producer H31R that came out two weeks ago. https://www.allmusic.com/album/headspace-mw0004083397

I hope someone will still find a moment for this latest entry in the DJ-Kicks series:

You may be surprised with this one but there you go - a review is up!

45 users have rated Róisín Murphy's new album in the past 10 weeks, but AllMusic is still ignoring it.

'Favorite Alternative & Indie Albums' for 2023 go online on Monday, I do hope someone will review this album by then, at least...

Now I see Róisín Murphy showing up in your editors' 'Best of 2023' lists. Yet still no review...

Interesting, it'll probably be reviewed then!  (I was assuming that it's already too late to request reviews for consideration in Allmusic's yearly lists.)  If editors decide which albums to review based on the number of user ratings, then albums released late in the year would be disadvantaged compared to earlier releases.

P.S. Matski's request for Iris Dement's album made Allmusic's "Favorite Folk & Americana Albums"!  She's my favorite living singer-songwriter, but I didn't request a review because her fans always expect good music from her.

Looks like AllMusic is simply refusing to review this one.

I hope someone will still find a moment for Allison Russell's new album (which came out in September). The previous one got a 4.5 star review in 2021. https://www.allmusic.com/album/the-returner-mw0004018369 Thanks in advance!

43 user reviews in a couple of months, yet still no AllMusic review.

Seems your request for this one has been answered - a review is up!

Thanks for the heads-up! Seems Timothy Monger agreed this one shouldn't be ignored. :)

This album from last year has accumulated 40 very high ratings from users in one year. I'd love for one of the writers to look into it as well. :) https://www.allmusic.com/album/not-tight-mw0003723612

I don't know why Allmusic overlooked this new artist.  Several publications have reviewed the debut album (on a major label!), which wasn't even mentioned in Allmusic's bio.

Don't know if you've noticed already but the staff responded to your request. ;)

I hadn't, thanks Matski. Cheers!

Ryuichi's 12 has been reviewed by many publications, because it's a remarkable swan song from the late artist.

I'm surprised Sigur Rós haven't been reviewed since 2013 (and Ryuichi has only one review in that time period)!  I assume that the reason is their recent releases haven't been released on a major label.  Their latest is released by BMG, which was the major-minor label that also released Anaïs Mitchell's last album overlooked by Allmusic.

Songwriters like Iris, who choose to self-release to avoid compromising artistic integrity, have been rarely reviewed even after winning a Grammy.  It's a catch-22 circumstance for self-releases, because their limited distribution can benefit most (arguably more than major label releases) from reviews that are more widely published.  Yet, Allmusic holds the limited distribution against self-releases unlike other publications that don't do so (at least against Iris).

P.S. my request about Sunny was ignored.

As you pass these lists on to me, I send them on to the editorial team.
