That's a good way to look at it.

I don't agree with you guys, although I like the constructivism around this.
In the other day, for example, I saw some YouTube guys discussing if Alice In Chains was heavy metal or grunge, whereas if Grunge was actually a genre as we know it. 
In fact, grunge is a subgenre from alternative.
And my answer was prompt (although nobody understood):
"Just because you smoke pot doesn't make you a Stoner"

Hard to find humour these days - It's either in the heart or in the pocket.

So in this case, I believe that Left-Field Pop, just as Left-Field Rap, is directly run by producers (Like, let's say Dr.Octagon).

In the same measure, Alternative Pop , may be influenced by other genres (and sub-) tendencies, either in arrangement or production (but not absolutely), just like Alternative Rock. Capiche?
