    1 star user reviews

    joe s · 3 · Last reply by Zac

User reviews are mostly useful and helpful. However, I see way too many 1/2 start or 1 star review for albums that have average critic and user reviews of four stars or higher. Why do you allow those when clearly these people have agendas against the artist or genre and very likely didn't even listen to the album? You should at least require they explain themselves instead of one sentence comments. The latest I saw was Jessie Ware/That feels good, but there are many examples.

new albums by previously highly rated artists

tv · 3 · Last reply by rootsmusic

When an artist's previous album was highly rated, it always sits a bit uneasy with me it the new one isn't even reviewed. So if you don't mind, I'll occasionally post an example of that here, in the hope it might still be remedied. Exhibit one: Conway the Machine's new album 'Won't He Do It'. https://www.allmusic.com/album/wont-he-do-it-mw0003973881

    Thanks in advance!

    different albums sharing a title

Just one recording in the musical legacy of a roots music giant, his label's film soundtrack has a set of songs that differ from Howard Armstrong's solo album.

Allmusic does not work properly on my Andriod phone.

Eddie de Wijs · 1 · Last reply by Zac

Allmusic does not work properly on my Andriod phone. It returns a http error-400. It does not switch to some detail pages.

The message is that I have to contact the site owner. Attached is a screenshot from the issue (Dutch).

I tend to get unreasonably impatient when the star ratings for some new releases take a while to appear online, as they are again this week.

Is this due to some hard-to-solve bug, or what is causing it, if I may ask? :)

Acid House Kings album reviews are swapped

    Barry C · 1 · Last reply by Zac

The reviews for the first two Acid House Kings albums are flipped. The review for the album "Advantage Acid House Kings" is posted incorrectly as the review for the album "Mondays are Like Tuesdays and Tuesdays are like Wednesdays". The reviews need to be flipped.

    Serious Glitch in Your Website

James · 2 · Last reply by Zac

I cannot read the end of the album reviews because they are covered up by the user reviews. The Read More and Collapse buttons do not help. This is extremely frustrating! I paid for a subscription and can’t even use the most important part of your website! Please help me fix this!

    Searching songs became very difficult

tv · 7 · Last reply by tv

Something has changed recently that makes searching for songs by just typing title and artist very difficult. For example, typing 'eddie chacon haunted memories' would get me straight to that song, as it should, but now it returns no results. So either I have to type 'haunted memories' now, filter for songs and scroll down looking for the one I need (very timeconsuming sometimes), or I have to search for 'eddie chacon' and then click through to the full list of songs on his artist profile (idem ditto). It would be wonderful if you could simply reverse whatever change has

    Not a hate crime

    Steve Mills · 0 · Posted

In Stephen Thomas Erlewine's review of Rod Stewart's A Night on the Town , he calls Georie's murder a "hate crime," which is 100% wrong. If he had actually listened to the lyrics, he'd know the murder was accidental during a routine mugging. The fact that Georgie was gay had nothing at all to do with his death. Get him to correct his erroneous interjection by deleting the following portion:

-- a hate crime years before the term existed --

    review for wrong album?

rootsmusic · 1 · Last reply by Zac

Le Bon Vieux Temps is French.  Why does the review refer to a Brazilian dance ("pre-zouk") and Spanish dance ("bolero-oriented")?  I haven't head of the group Maxels.

    unattributed "reviews"

rootsmusic · 1 · Last reply by Zac

When a "review" is unattributed, can I assume that it's written as just a descriptive blurb?  Generally, descriptive blurbs are descriptions that can be gleaned from the liner notes and press junkets.  They don't go into depth about any song, except maybe to mention one was a single.

However, the unattributed review for Mutual Admiration Society seems to be more than a descriptive blurb.  It opines about the songwriting and aesthetic style; comments on the album's "tone and atmosphere"; and concludes that the album is a "quiet, thoughtful collection".  It also doesn't contain any negative critique to justify a rating

    Profile Under An Old Email

Louis Toscano · 2 · Last reply by Louis Toscano

I once had an account here.  Under two different deleted email addresses I could not login.  So, I began a new profile with a current email address.  I guess the next step is locating the older account.  However, I just realized that there is a separate for the site itself besides one for this forum.  So, one of those old email addresses works.  What do we do about my having two profiles?

    Website Runs Too Busy

Louis Toscano · 2 · Last reply by Louis Toscano

This is a Mac Monterey and I had to close out of Firefox.  It looks like somebody designed this site to damage my browser and shut down my OS.  To get to this forum - and in the midst of researching an artist - despite not wanting to login, I had to reopen in Safari.  While in Firefox the popups in the lower left would not X out.  I do not know if you are running scripts; but my cursor turned into a fast-spinning pinwheel.  These are the only two browsers I have.  I switch between one or the other

Oooh La La! - a delightful album by the Crash Test Dummies

In his review of Crash Test Dummies' album "Oooh La La!" (2010), Stephen Thomas Erlewine complains about the Dummies being "constitutionally incapable of playing things straight", saying that Brad Roberts "has an annoying tendency to sound like he's barely suppressing his smirk as he sings, laughing at his own jokes like a hack comedian", and adding "by sounding so delighted with his own cleverness, he undermines the whole shebang". I don't know how well Mr. Erlewine knows Crash Test Dummies, but I think that this is basically just Brad Roberts being himself. It's just part of his personality and the

GEORGE SACCAL record label correction for one song

George Saccal · 3 · Last reply by George Saccal

For artist George Saccal, the song "The Good Lord Loves You" is on Starmaker One Music Group for the "record label", not "Epochal". The other song listed is accurate. Please update with the proper record label for that one song only. Thank you!

    priority for reviews

    rootsmusic · 0 · Posted

Zac explained: "Some albums tend to be announced, released, charting, and then practically forgotten within a matter of days, so we’re trying to prioritize coverage on the ones with some staying power."  Given a cut in the number of reviews, I agree with his theoretical explanation of Allmusic's priority.  Unfortunately in practice, Allmusic hasn't been very good adhering to that explanation.

In terms of recording types, I'd prefer that Allmusic first prioritize reviews of original recordings (and reissues).  There can be few exceptions to this first priority if a live album or cover/tribute album is exceptional.  Even with original recordings
