OK folks, today we launched the Premieres & Finales page.

You can see more detail here: https://allmedianetwork.helprace.com/i666-premieres-finales-page-plus-a-new-homepage

This was one of my favorite parts of Sidereel. Which I now know, means I was in that 1% of folks that used it haha. For me, I used it for premieres only. It was the best way I found to see what new shows are coming out on all the various channels. There were MANY shows I would not have known about had I not seen them on the calendar.

I LOVED the premier’s calendar and have since stopped using sidereel due to the changes. Including no more episode summary in the tracker view, tracker is clunkier and difficult to mark shows at watched, it takes forever for new shows and episodes to be added, and I’m sure there’s more that I can’t think of anymore since it’s been so long.
I use a new tracker app now that isn’t great but pros are: 1. It’s an app

2. new shows and episodes are added very quickly

3. easy to use and mark off watched episodes and seasons.

For me the premieres was the way I found new shows to watch, I didn't really care about finales. I would check for upcoming shows each month and add them to my tracker so they'd show up on my weekly calendar in time to schedule my DVR to record the series.

We'll see if we can figure out a good way to do this.

Based on the previous usage of SideReel, this page really got less than 1% of the overall traffic so we were under the impression that it wasn't that valuable to users.

It was a grid of shows that were starting or ending, correct? Regardless of whether or not you were tracking that show or if it was in a genre you usually liked? Was this useful in exploration of new shows to watch? Are the Premieres more useful than the Finales?

Just trying to figure out how folks were using this page and how we can make it useful in the future. Manually tagging all of these shows as they come out or are ending isn't something we are staffed to do, so maybe we can come up with a programmatic way to do it(?)

@Zac So pretty much it was knowing what season ended or what netflix show just came out then we could go to itunes or amazon and binge watch them. I would say for me I didnt really care much for the premires, only the finales were important to know.

For me and my friends, we would check on the page maybe once or twice a week to see if there is a new show or a new season to binge watch. Say for example i dont really go to my netflix except if someone tells me there is a new show, so your page was helping me to see what shows are out and done for the season and i would go and start watching them. ( otherwise i would miss on them and some years go by without me knowing, but when I found your calendar I never missed anything)

It makes total sense you wouldn't see any traffic, because most of us would check the page like four times a month and some only once because it will show us all the shows that will be ready to binge (finales) on the whole month and we go ahead and mark them or save them on our calendars. So we would never need to check on the page everyday, because you guys were so amazing that you put on the whole month finales ^_^.

Simply put, if there is a way to like maybe make a script that would tag the last episode in a season as you guys put them in on your main normal calendar, and if it is the last episodes in the season it would be tagged as finales on the finales calendar. The same things for shows that comes out in a full season pack like netflix shows.

Another way is doing it once a month, maybe gather all fianles (and full season shows) and just post them at the start of each month. (as you guys already list them in your calendar so it shouldnt be hard to marking it then posting it once a month or something. Thats just an idea.

It was good to see what was premiering so we could check out new shows. We also like to see the blue or orange bar so we could tell what's going on.

I found this helpful to know what new shows were coming out, both series and season premieres. Especially now that you don’t do the seasonal new series previews I have to go elsewhere to find upcoming shows.
honestly all of the recent changes made sidereel extremely inconvenient to use. I’ve started tracking on another app but they require a paid membership to see episode summary and also don’t have a premiers page. but it’s still easier to use that app and look up episode details on IMDB than it is to use sidereel. I keep checking back hoping you’ve made improvements but am disappointed every time.

@Sara oh that's some bad news.

@Zac Maybe it would be possible if they open that premieres and finales calendar to community members editing, so all of us can work together and keep it updated every month?

This was indeed one of the better features on the site especially since I could add right to the tracker as I noticed premieres.

I appreciate you've got constraints - for us as the users we're losing critical features.  I've been using sidereel 12ish years I think and have a ton of data and habbits built around the site.
